Instructor Bio

“My goal is to empower youth through improved focus, developed awareness, and increased confidence.”

SOUL Karate Instructor Dave has an extensive background in the martial arts; a passion that began for him at a very young age. Through his experience as a teacher he has developed training opportunities that allow the participant to grow physically, psychologically, and spiritually. To do this, he works to incorporate both internal martial arts, like Taiji and Qi Gong exercises, and external martial arts, like Karate and Jiu Jitsu, to provide the participant with a balanced experience. He earned his black belt from the United Nations of Ju Jitsu (UNJJ) where he has participated as an international member and competitor.

Dave has experience working with groups of all ages and ability levels. Currently his teaching has focused on youth karate instruction (ages 4 – 15). He has also taught adult mixed martial arts (MMA), adult taiji quan (tai chi), and offers women’s self-defense workshops and individualized training in a variety of areas.

My daughter has been studying with Instructor Dave since January and it has helped her immensely. She is more confident, shares more in class and is more focused. Added bonus: it has turned out to also be a great test-prep class.

Dave was very patient with my 7 y.o. son, who has always tended to be a little hyperactive and not inclined to follow rules. My son’s personal growth over the past year in the class has been really remarkable. After 10 months, he was listening to the instructions, following the rules, and most importantly, he loves the class!
